The first cabin structure’s concrete pouring for China’s largest overseas electrochemical energy storage project has been completed.

Recently, the concrete pouring for the initial cabin structure of the 150 MW/300 MWh energy storage power station project in Andijan Region, Uzbekistan, constructed by Central Southern China Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. as the EPC contractor, was successfully completed.

This project utilizes lithium iron phosphate batteries for electrochemical energy storage, featuring a 150 MW/300 MWh energy storage system. The entire station is divided into 8 storage zones, comprising a total of 40 storage units. Each unit includes 1 prefabricated boost transformer cabin and 2 prefabricated battery cabins. The PCS (Power Conversion System) is installed inside the battery cabin. The station includes 80 storage battery cabins with a capacity of 5 MWh each and 40 boost transformer prefabricated cabins with a capacity of 5 MW each. Additionally, a new 220 kV energy storage boost transformer is being constructed 3.1 kilometers southeast of the 500 kV substation in Andijan Region.

The project adopts civil construction subcontracting in Uzbekistan, facing challenges such as language barriers, differences in design, construction standards, and management concepts, long procurement and customs clearance times for Chinese equipment, various factors affecting the project schedule, and difficulties in project management. After the project started, the EPC project department of Central Southern China Electric Power meticulously organized and planned, ensuring orderly and steady progress, creating favorable conditions for achieving project goals. To ensure controllable project progress, quality, and safety, the project team implemented “resident” on-site construction management, providing hands-on guidance, explanations, and training to frontline teams, answering questions, and clarifying drawings and construction processes. They implemented daily, weekly, monthly, and milestone plans; organized design disclosures, drawing reviews, and safety technical disclosures; prepared, reviewed, and reported plans; held regular weekly, monthly, and special meetings; and conducted weekly (monthly) safety and quality inspections. All procedures strictly followed the “three-level self-inspection and four-level acceptance” system.

This project is part of the first batch of projects listed under the “Belt and Road” Initiative’s tenth anniversary summit forum and China-Uzbekistan production capacity cooperation. With a total investment of 944 million yuan, it is the largest single-unit electrochemical energy storage project invested overseas by China, the first grid-side electrochemical energy storage project to start construction in Uzbekistan, and China Energy Construction’s first overseas energy storage investment project. Once completed, the project will provide Uzbekistan’s power grid with a regulation capacity of 2.19 billion kWh, making the power supply more stable, safer, and more sufficient, injecting new vitality into local economic and livelihood development.
